Abel Dairy Farms has given Wisconsin six generations of farmers dating back to 1857. The 12,058 cubic yard expansion began on March 28th, 2022 and completed on October 19th.
During the farm expansion, the ready-mix supplier poured two barns, a machine shop, feed slab, and an external pit. The main concrete mixes used were 3500 air entrained and 4000 air entrained + Super-Plasticizer.
Occasionally, a straight 6 bag mix was used to help set the concrete. 5lbs of fiber was used in 650 yards, and 1½ lbs of fiber was used in 126 yards. On cold days, non-chloride accelerator or calcium chloride was added to assist in the setting process.
Work on the project took place 4-5 days a week for months. Some of the large pours were 500+ yards. The job was 9 miles from the plant and required 90+ yards an hour.
The farm added 2,500 milking cows. We are happy that we were able to complete this addition and help grow a very meaningful part of Wisconsin together.
